20-30 North Front
Overview
Located in the Old City Historic District of Philadelphia, the development of the Old City Mercantile entailed a complete gut renovation of the formerly vacant and dilapidated building, known as “The Girard Estate Warehouses.” The development also entailed an exterior historic restoration of the façade and new construction of an attached 5 story annex to the rear of the original structure. The historic restoration of this 19thcentury structure was completed under the auspice of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), the National Parks Service, Philadelphia Historic Commission, Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, and the Old City Civic Association. The result was a beautiful 5-story brick building of Greek Revival architecture which carefully blends the “old with the new” containing 35 luxury rental units and 3 parking spaces. In 2010, BRP Development Corp. received the “2010 Adaptive Reuse Award” by the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia for the restoration of the former Girard Estate Warehouses. The Old City Mercantile opened for occupancy in 2009.
